Avoiding Cavities in 2018

Posted .

2018 is going to be YOUR year. You can feel it. As you make your resolutions for the new year, don’t forget your smile! Follow these 4 tips to help prevent cavities for 2018.

Brush: Make sure you brush twice a day, taking a full two minutes for each session. Use a very soft bristled brush! Though it may seem like stiff-bristled brushes would give a more thorough clean, the exact opposite is actually true. Medium and hard bristles can damage tooth enamel and rip up gum tissues unnecessarily. Stick with soft bristles for polished and healthy teeth!

Floss: Interdental cleaning, using floss or other approved interdental cleaner, is just as important as cleaning the surfaces of your teeth through brushing your teeth. Floss removes food, bacteria, and debris from places your toothbrush can’t reach.

Eat Well: Avoid foods full of sugar and acids. The sugary foods feed the bacteria in your mouth. THese bacteria make acids that erode your enamel. Acidic food deteriorates enamel directly. Be aware of less obvious culprits, such as energy or sports drinks, which are full of both sugar and acids.

Visit Your Dentist: Visiting your dentist allows them to catch any problems early. You should visit your dentist at least twice a year.
