Claire Black, DDS
A Hendersonville native, Dr. Claire Black earned her DDS degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2012. She joined Hendersonville Dentistry right after graduating, and she was a partner with the original owner, Dr. Clay Sanders, until his retirement in June 2017. Dr. Black strives to stay well-informed and offer her patients the highest level of care possible by taking continuing education courses throughout the year on topics that capture her interest. She is also a Spear Study Club member, and meets monthly with other local general dentists and specialists to further their education. Dr. Black has received additional training for dental implant placement, and is a member of the American Dental Association (ADA) and the North Carolina Dental Society. Her goal as a dentist is to help patients of all ages achieve the highest level of oral health possible in a most gentle and efficient manner.
Dr. Black has been married to her husband, Preston, since 2006. Together, they have one daughter, who was born in 2014. In her leisure time, she enjoys riding dirt bikes with her family, autocrossing, and hiking. Dr. Black is also a member of the Hendersonville Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
Robert Renck, DDS
Dr. Renck earned his dental degree from Loma Linda University in 2009. He initially practiced in Maryland for six years before starting in North Carolina in July 2017. Dr. Renck is a big proponent of staying well-informed and expanding his knowledge, so he can continue to provide his patients with the quality care they deserve. He is a member of the Spear Study Club, where he meets with other dentists, including Dr. Black, to continue his education. Dr. Renck also attends dental conventions one to two times a year and has received advanced training in dental appliances for obstructive sleep apnea. Additionally, he is a member of the American Dental Society, North Carolina Dental Society, and National Association of Seventh-Day Adventist Dentists. Dr. Renck’s primary goal as a dentist is to fulfill his patients’ dental needs and desires efficiently and comfortably.
Dr. Renck is married and has three children. His hobbies include cycling, playing guitar, and hiking. He looks forward to providing his current patients with the utmost care while welcoming new ones!

Carri – Registered Dental Hygienist
Carri has been in the dental field since 1995 and became a registered dental hygienist in 2000. She joined Hendersonville Dentistry in 2003, and enjoys being part of a practice where she gets to work with her friends in such an uplifting, fun environment, while delivering professional care to patients. Carri contributes to our success with her joy, laughter, and professionalism.
Heather J. – Registered Dental Hygienist
Heather graduated in 1995 and has been at Hendersonville Dentistry since 2014. She truly enjoys what she does and helps things run smoothly with her incredible attention to detail. Heather is thankful to be part of such a great, family-oriented team, and looks forward to coming into work every day. Heather is married and has two kids.
Heather S. – Registered Dental Hygienist
Heather graduated from A-B Tech in 1995 and joined our practice in 2002. Her favorite thing about being a part of Hendersonville Dentistry, is the family atmosphere combined with the mutual respect everyone has for each other. Heather helps us succeed with her support and by treating patients like family. Heather is married to her husband of 25 years. Together, they have four children. In her free time, she enjoys hiking and reading.
Julie – Registered Dental Hygienist
Julie graduated from dental hygiene school in 1994 and joined Hendersonville Dentistry in March of 2017. She enjoys being part of a practice where the dentists give their patients the highest level of care no matter how difficult their dental problems; and she strives to provide this same standard of care to each patient as well. Shannon has three children, ages 9, 11, and 14. In her leisure time, she loves working outside, doing things like gardening and hiking.
Jodi – Dental Assistant
Jodi joined our practice in 2013 and has 28 years of experience in the dental field. She enjoys being part of practice that interacts like one big happy family, and she contributes to our success with her in-depth knowledge and professionalism.
Sara – Dental Assistant
Sara has been with Hendersonville Dentistry since 2011, and she loves how her co-workers are more like family. She helps our practice succeed with her kind, caring, and professional manner. In her free time, Sara enjoys spending time with her partner, Rick, her dogs, Sadie and Lucky, and her cat, B.B. Her hobbies include hiking, Pilates, and gardening.
Karen – Insurance Coordinator
Karen has been with Hendersonville Dentistry since 2008, and she enjoys being a part of such a great team on a personal and professional level. As our insurance coordinator, she helps patients get the treatment they need by maximizing their insurance benefits and assisting them in understanding the often-challenging aspects of their plans. Karen has a wonderful husband, Kent, and together, they enjoy hanging out with friends, camping, and just making life an adventure. She is also blessed to be a part of her step-children’s lives, which include their seven grandkids. Karen also loves her fur babies, who are a big part of her life.
Shannon – Personal Assistant
Shannon graduated from Southern Adventist University in 2005 with a bachelor’s in psychology, and then earned a bachelor’s in nursing from Western Carolina University in 2008. She joined Hendersonville Dentistry in 2015, where she enjoys the pleasant, family atmosphere, combined with the great teamwork and excellent patient care. Shannon contributes to our success with her friendly, positive attitude. She also helps our dentists with non-clinical projects, so they have more time for patient care. Shannon is married to her husband, Kevin. Together, they have a two-year-old son named Thomas. Shannon’s hobbies include cooking, gardening, playing volleyball, reading, and listening to or playing music.
Hope – Front Desk
Hope joined our practice in 2015, and she enjoys being part of such a personable, warm, and friendly practice. Hope has three siblings and a dog. Her mom is a dental hygienist, so dentistry runs in the family. Her hobbies include hiking and reading.
Kelsey – Front Desk
Kelsey is the newest addition to our practice, but she is already enjoying the family-oriented atmosphere and friendly team. She helps things run smoothly by making sure appointments are scheduled in a timely manner, and by providing a warm, friendly presence for patients from the moment they walk in. Kelsey is married and has four awesome step-kids. In her free time, she enjoys baking, reading, hiking, and board game night with her family.
